E/N: I'm writing this in the week before I was originally due to travel to the Netherlands for the tulip season; hence why this post won't mention Kings Day in detail.

As for what this post will explain, it's a general piece showcasing the areas of the Netherlands that I and my family will visit in 4 days, from May 26th to May 30th.

Unfortunately due to a personal situation, the tulip season and thus a visit to Keukenhof, the Netherlands' most well known tulip fields would be skipped but as a result, one area that I'm looking forward to visiting is the area around Delft, as I'm interested in the local pottery industry due to the UK's own potters' towns in the county of Staffordshire.

However, the main draw for me is the extensive transport network under the Dutch national operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen, or NS for non-Dutchies. Alongside NS, there are multiple private operators, two of which are Abellio and Arriva.

Most of the transport network is coalesced around a nationwide smart card known as the OV-chipkaart which is available as either an anonymous or personal transit card.

I'll be picking one up for €7.50 as a souvenir, as most of the country now uses OVpay, which allows for the use of contactless credit or debit cards used on public transport.

As for one element which I'm slightly saddened I wouldn't get to experience is the Dutch tradition of Konigsdag or King's Day in English.

As well as this, there will be a new photo gallery and a post explaining my thoughts after I get back.

See you on the other side. :)
