A Reflection on Life in Hiroshima (REUPLOAD)

From the insanity of Osaka, after a few days, we decided to detour on JR West to Hiroshima city and the island of Miyajima, just off the city's coastline in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Most of the photo gallery showcases specific elements of the trip, such as a visit to the Itsukushima Grand Shrine, and unexpectedly viewing a Buddhist ceremony. As well as the sights of Miyajima and Hiroshima, visiting the city instilled a sense of solemn hope for the future, emphasised by none other than the Eternal Peace Flame on the grounds of the Peace Park, which wouldn't be extinguished until the world is bereft of nuclear weapons.

Hiroshima City is most infamously known for the American nuclear strike on the city on the 6th of August 1945, at the moment of writing this reupload, 81 years on.

As someone who studied this event in my GCSE history classes, it felt surreal to be in the place where the Fat Man atomic bomb was detonated and the horrors that left an eerie wistfulness in the minds of locals and gaijin (foreigners) alike.

After a few days in this city, we decided to follow the sakura northeast to Kyoto and eventually to Tokyo.

NEXT: Serenity in Kyoto.

Editor's Note: The photo gallery has been removed due to technical issues displaying it on the live site, so it won't be reinstated to avoid errors.
