My life as an Aspie - PROLOGUE + EARLY LIFE (2001 - 2013)

Hello all; these next few posts will be a bit different, as this trilogy of submissions details all the raw emotion and challenges that I, George Barrett have to face as a young adult with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), in particular Asperger's Syndrome and subsequent anxieties of daily life.


I was born in Basildon Hospital in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) due to being born 13 weeks premature due to my chronic lung disease; according to my parents I weighed as much as a bag of sugar. (2lbs IIRC).


My early life was relatively mundane up until age 8 when my parents took me to the doctor's to reveal that I was diagnosed with ASD. That day, if only I knew what was to come...


My primary school life was full of surprises as a result, meeting the Kenyan Maasai tribe in Year 3 and receiving an oxen bracelet as a gift (as an example) I'd also found my footing when I'd start to develop more achievable social goals...


After 6 years from starting Primary School in early 2007, I left for greener pastures; secondary school: Harris Academy Chafford Hundred...
